We all know that getting to know our audience on a deeper level is the best way to learn what they truly want and need. But yet it’s one of the things a lot of people struggle with, especially when they are first starting out.

That is why I want to share 5 quick and easy ways to get to know your audience on a deeper level so that you can speak to them in a more impactful way.

But before we dive in I want you to think about this from the perspective of getting to know a friend for the first time. For some friends it might take a little longer to fully open up, and for others that instant connection is undeniable.

Either way is fine, but your audience could be the same way. I just want you to keep that in mind as you get to know your community.

So let’s dive in.

1. The Use of Story

The use of story is an amazing way to form that initial connection with your audience, but when done well story also forms a deep emotional connection.

“But Kathryn, what type of stories do we share?”
is a question I often hear from my community.

And it’s a great one!! You want to think of your story as the thing your audience needs to hear to connect, relate, and aspire towards.

For example, if your audience is feeling unfulfilled in their career, you might share a story of how you felt that way before too, and how you’ve overcome your struggles to find happiness and fulfillment.

I recommend that you start brainstorming where your audience is in their journey before they meet you, and how your story can help them see what is possible. The more real and raw you make your story, the more impact it’ll have on your audience.

2. Discovery Calls

I love jumping on discovery calls with my ideal clients. And not from a sales perspective, but purely as an exploratory conversation to get to know them better. Face-to-face personal connection is the best way to get to know your audience on a deeper level. So the more you can create the opportunity to engage with them face-to-face the faster you’ll develop those deep connections.

Discovery calls are just one quick and easy way to have these face-to-face conversations. Other ways include, live events, workshops, FB or IG lives where you audience can jump on and ask questions, and/or guest training inside someone else's community.

Either way, make it a practice to connect face-to-face. It goes a long way!!

3. The Art of Asking + Listening

Ask your audience more questions, more often. Whether that’s through social prompts, emails, or surveys. The more you ask questions and devote your energy to listening to your audience the deeper the connection you’ll start forming.

When they feel
seen and heard they’ll start sharing more freely and openly. Mastering your listening skills is the best way to create a deep understanding with your audience. And you and I both know that the better you understand your audience the better you can communicate with them.

4. Three Minute Rule

Spend the first three minutes of your calls with clients shooting the shit. I mean asking the small talk stuff like:

    How was your day?
Do you have any plans this weekend?
    What’s your fav show?

These small talk questions help break the ice, and lay the foundation for forming deeper connections. They also help you understand your audiences’ reality. And the more you can understand who they are and what their deepest desires are, the better you’ll be able to speak to them in a more impactful way.

5. Engage with them on Social

Following and engaging with your audience on social media might seem like common sense, but following their stories, and engaging with their content is a great way to build a deeper connection.

It shows them that you are invested in their life. IG stories are also a great way to see into their world. When you observe their life through social media you can start to see what they value, and what’s important to them. This will give you inspiration to create content that truly speaks to their heart.

On that note, I’ll leave you with this “make it your mission to get to know your audiences’ heart at its deepest level. This approach to getting to know them will allow you to serve them at the deepest level.”

But also remember they are human beings. The more you can see them as that versus seeing them as a sale the faster you’ll grow your business and the more impact you’ll create.
